We have arrived in Cambodia and we hit the ground running! We had so much to do to get settled. The first two days after we arrived, we looked at nearly a dozen houses and apartments until we found exactly what we were looking for. Shannon and Zoe were in love at first sight. I as a little more cautious but loved it, too. We are so happy we found a good apartment with excellent landlords and a great realtor. They are so sweet and kind.
Moving from the hotel to the apartment was a bit of a challenge. We had 8 bags weighing 50 pounds each to bring from the fourth floor room we were on (no elevator, of course–it’s Cambodia after all) and we loaded the bags on to two tuk-tuks to take to our new apartment. Then, we carried to bags to our second floor apartment. We were exhausted when we were done.
It didn’t take long for us to feel right at home here again. The humility, kindness and friendliness of the Cambodian people will win your heart quickly. Reconnecting with friends, our church here and other acquaintances has been good.
Zoe started her 10th grade year on Tuesday this week. She’s such a trooper. I am amazed at her ability to adapt and adjust. She’s had a terrible rash that started before we left the states and has been getting worse every day, despite using cortisone cream, Claritin, and other ointments. Please pray for her rash to clear. She is pretty uncomfortable at times.
As we move forward, we are asking prayer for direction for our ministry here and for God to help us find good contacts for projects for teams. We start our language classes next week. We will need prayer for learning the language as well. It will be a challenge, but we are all eager to become more fluent in Khmer. As always, we ask for prayer for good health and protection every day.
Our kids at home are doing great. Madison is loving her classes and her job in the writing center. Taylor just landed an awesome position at Asbury University as the Assistant Director of Alumni Relations, a job she has wanted since moving back to Lexington with Wes. Now, Taylor and Madison can see each other every day! (isn’t God amazing!) I mean, it’s no coincidence that this job became available just one month before we left. Canaan has a house to live in and a great landlord, too (his grandma) and is driving again and is approved as a substitute teacher in Ross County. This mama’s heart is comforted knowing my kids are well and have a support system in place when I can’t be there. God can be trusted with everything–our family, our future, our present, and….everything!
Thank you so much for all your prayers and support! We could not have made this move without it. God is so good and His provision for us has been awesome!
So happy to hear you are getting settled in. Praying for God to supply your every need. We know He will! Enjoyed reading your blog too. ??????
